DEAR DECEMBER

Dear December,

From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the 7.8 billion citizens of the world, 200 million citizens of Nigeria and 14 million residents of Lagos State, I say a big 'WELCOME'!

I hope your trip wasn't as stressful as the previous years. I know you're astonished at this Royal welcome we're giving you, please don't be, a lot has happened. Most of the happenings have been unplanned than planned, unexpected than expected, tragic than joyous, without mincing words, it's been tough for us and we are very excited to see you.

I must confess, many of us didn't have a good time with your siblings so we have been anticipating your arrival for the past few months, hoping that you would be better than them.

We reminisce on the good memories we have of you from previous years, how you come with glad tidings, blessings, good news and festivals than put smiles on our faces and laughter in our mouths.

It is because of you that most of us receive 13th month salary, bonuses, Christmas packages, gifts and even hampers.

Oh boy! The family outings, reunion, hangout with friends, and quality time spent with family, trip to our hometowns, are a few of the things we enjoy in your time.

You have always been a sight for sore eyes because you constantly give us reasons to be grateful. 2020 hit us real hard, we lost many to the deadly virus, COVID-19, we also lost a good number of heroes during the #EndSARS protest. Need I mention how many of us had to shut down our businesses and lost their jobs?

Well, in the words of the Prophet Isaiah in the Bible, we want to forget the things of the past and look forward to the new things that are to come.

I want to use this opportunity to plead with you, our beloved December, please, be kind to us.

Please help us heal and restore some of what we lost as much as you can. Once again, fill our hearts with cheer, our mouths with laughter and our feet with dancing.

Show us again, that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that truly, joy comes in the morning.

Do not let any of us have a reason to shed a tear and please, when you finish up 2020, hand us all, in one piece, to your brother, January. Help us go through you without mishap and don't let 2020 snatch anyone of us our loved ones. Please ensure our safety, good health and well-being even as we merry in you.

Thanks in anticipation of the enjoyment we will experience in you.

Yours Faithfully,

The Tory Teller, for the world.
